Sadly I get many inquires from people who have had bad
experiences with purchasing a puppy. Many have had to put their dog
down at a young age. However the age for the outward signs of genetic
problems is getting younger and younger. So I had to share this story
with you.
Below are x-rays showing the hips of a puppy that is only 6
months old. Notice how the hip joints are not even in the sockets.
The owner of this puppy loves this puppy dearly and could not hold back the
tears of the potential of having to put down this lovely little one.
She is his heart and joy and so dear to him. The good news - after
driving to the University Vet hospital - is that the puppy can have surgery
and does not have to be put down. However the surgery and vet expenses
are very high. Some need total hip replacement at a cost of $2500 a
hip (variable by location). This pup is lucky enough to have an owner
who will do anything for her - however not all new puppy owners can afford
the costly surgeries. So when you see a pup advertised for a higher
price then you see in your local newspaper - there is a reason. You
will be avoiding the potential for costly vet expenses. Getting a
quality pup means paying a bit more - but you will be saving a lot more in
vet expenses.
